Mt Zion Inner-City

The History of the Mt Church began well into the 1800s. Under Pastor Handy's leadership, which began in 1997, the Mt. Zion Baptist Church II became one of the fastest growing churches in the city of Plaquemine to the surprise of many including Pastor Handy. In 2005, Pastor Handy led the Mt. Zion Church from a small plantation facility that they never owned to the Inner City realm of Plaquemine purchasing the Belleview Health and Racket Club.

The heart of the ministry work of Mt. Zion Baptist Church II would begin to show the heart of Pastor Handy. New Ministries were created as Mt. Zion BC II further showed they were no longer the small church of the city but a ministry of excellence. This began a new era for the church as they became known as Mt. Zion Baptist Church Inner-City of Plaquemine. In 2019, the Mt Zion Inner City Church of Plaquemine opened it second location, Mt Zion Inner City of Baton Rouge. Pastor Handy and the MZBCIC believes that great things can be done in a small city. Pastor Handy says 'either you will be influenced by the small mentally of your city or influenced by the greatness of your God. The product of your faith and work is a sign of who's influencing you.

What We Believe

We believe that the Word of God releases to us the plan of God for the Church and our lives, with governing principles designed for maturity and success.

We believe that there is one God in three Persons: God The Father, Jesus The Son, and The Holy Spirit. We believe that Jesus is fully and truly God, and fully and truly man. Jesus is the only Mediator between God and man, and only Jesus saves from sin.

We believe that salvation is entirely by grace through faith, apart from man’s works. Salvation comes about when a sinner trusts the works of Jesus to save him or her from sin.

We believe in the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. We believe that it is the will of God that all believers be filled with the influencing power of the Holy Spirit. He helps the believer to walk in Holiness and gives Power to be effective witnesses.

We believe that God give Pastors according to His Heart. We also believe that Pastors are given by God to the body of Christ for several reasons: 1) feeding of the Word of God 2) for Spiritual leadership and maturity 3) for protection and direction for the sheep.

We believe in biblically giving. We believe in cheerfully giving tithes, offering and sowing of seed. We believe that our tithes and offering should be brought to the storehouse, while being sensitive to the Holy Spirit in seed sowing into good ground. We believe in sowing into those biblical areas as directed by the word of God.

We believe in the power of Prayer. We believe that through prayer we can communicate with God. Prayer gives us the ability to make our request known unto God and for God to give direction.
